So, I loved my grip of the shield with the 8 round magazine but when I tried the seven round flush mag I hated how my pinky would hangover the bottom. My draw always felt imbalanced and my hand’s compression wasn’t optimal. Now of course, a bigger grip has the downside of printing more when carrying concealed. I was hoping to get the best of both worlds by picking up Pearce’s Mag extensions to allow me to use the 7 round magazine but get my pinky to grab my shield properly. The 7 round magazine was designed to be flush with the bottom of the Shield and the Pearce keeps it close to that base of the handgun when inserted it does not add any addition “height” to where the back of the grip would protrude out of a shirt and print. Pearce’s extensions are made from polymer so they blend into the firearm and look like they shipped with the Shield. Here’s the pearce extension in retail packaging In the next picture you can see the 7 round magazine with the Pearce extension in the Shield. So from the top of the slide to the bottom of the backstrap I got a measurement of 4.18″ I measured 4.97″ from the top of the slide to the front of the Pearce extension And in case you have larger hands you can interchange the Pearce Extension onto the 8 round magazines. When I insert the 8 round magazine I get a total of 4.64″ from the top of the slide to the bottom of the back of the magazine and 5.40″ at the front of the Pearce Extension. Trijicon makes their HD sights for the M&P line, excluding the Shield and C.O.R.E according to their site. Someone smarter than I, wouldn’t give up there and tested the M&P specific units in their Shield to find that they merely “extended” past the slide. I love Trijicon’s HD sights because the orange pops for my vision and allows me to get my fastest sight acquisition from the draw. In addition to having Tritium inserts the Orange or yellow paint on the front post is photoluminescent. You can charge the paint with your flashlight and get a few minutes of glow so you can easily track your front post. Otherwise you are playing the game of aligning the tritium inserts instead of focusing on your front post. They also have a U shaped notch which I prefer because it’s easier for my vision to balance a semi-circle instead of trying to balance the size of “rectangles” on either side of traditional posts for your sight alignment. So all three trtitium vials glow green at night (for “7 years”) and the front post will glow orange around the vial if you charge it. Now for some pics of the sights and how much they protrude VS stock sights. So how much is this protrusion? Not enough for me to wait for the Shield designated model. Since I was introduced to the HD line I have installed the Trijicon HDs onto my HK45c and P30. You can learn more about them here, http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product1.php?id=HDNS Night Time Shots Trtium inserts glowing on the front and rear.
